Duties:

Your Role as the Planner II - Parks and Recreation Facilities Design and Construction Management duties and responsibilities include a variety of professional park planning, park design and park construction management tasks typically performed by a landscape architect to include:

Develop concept plans for underdeveloped and undeveloped parks.

Create presentation drawings including rendered plans and 3-D drawings for public input.

Work on a City team managing design firms to move projects from concept plans to bid documents through construction to completion.

Review, analyze and provide input on planning documents, reports and site plans to ensure consistency with the Department’s design standards and long-range plans.

 

Work with playground equipment vendors to develop designs for new play structures and monitor their installations.

Maintain park asset and inventory records to support effective planning and operations.

Manage the repairs and replacement of park amenities including picnic shelters, tennis courts, basketball courts, skate parks, sports fields, etc.

Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, SketchUp, ArcGIS, Adobe Suites(PhotoShop) and MicroSoft Office software including Access.

 

Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

 

Requires a current and valid Driver’s license

 

Preferences

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience listed in the preferences below. Candidates with the preferred experience should ensure the information is provided in the application.

 

*Certification as a Landscape Architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

*Education in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or a related field.

*Experience in parks and recreation facility or outdoor recreational planning.

*Project management experience in planning and/or implementing capital improvement projects.

*Demonstrated proficiency in using AutoCAD, Photoshop, Sketchup, as well as other design related computer software & supporting hardware.

 

Schedule

This position can be primarily Monday -Friday, but will have occasional assignments that can include weekends and holidays

 

The individual selected for this position will be housed at a primary site but may be scheduled between other park sites/facilities. Schedules will be adjusted seasonally and will vary weekly based on events, facility coverage, and weather.  All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours, overtime, splits shifts or maybe be relocated to another location or job assignment in response to short- term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies including weekends, evenings and holidays.

 

Remote Type

A hybrid schedule is a schedule where employees may work on-site at their work location, but also be authorized to telework on agreed upon days of a workweek.  Specific telework agreements will be discussed and made between the employee and supervisor.

 

 

Alpha I

The position you are applying for is designated as Alpha I, requiring the selected candidate to work, regardless of the City’s operational status. All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

 

Department Training Starters

As a condition of employment, all employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided an approximate training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.
