Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field; two years of progressively responsible experience in recreation or community service program planning; experience providing recreation programs for adults and youth; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of objectives and principles of public recreation program planning. Ability to plan, organize and lead recreation activities. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be able to operate a computer and related software. Must have the ability to interact with a variety of people with diverse backgrounds and varying ages. Ability to supervise staff. Must be willing to work outside normal work hours, when necessary, which may include evenings and weekends. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the preceding twenty-four months, or one major violation of six demerit points with the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. 

 

Duties

 

Parks & Recreation is searching for a community minded leader to serve as our Senior Recreation Specialist and onsite supervisor for Ettrick Recreation Center. If you are a team player, know how to plan recreational programs for youth, older adults, and families, organize special community events and work well with numerous community organizations throughout the year, we want you to lead the Ettrick Recreation Center in providing great programs for a diverse population. Under general supervision of a Principal Recreation Specialist, the Senior Recreation Specialist manages facility operations, rentals, programs and staffing for Ettrick Recreation Center. Duties include supervising, training, and evaluating part-time staff, volunteers, contractual staff and other individuals, as necessary. Develops, plans, supervises, and implements recreation programs and special events. Responsible for facility management, monitoring and evaluating all recreational programs and special events; securing reservations; and preparing monthly reports. Monitors and evaluates staff performance and customer experience. Prepares a variety of written reports. Performs other work as required.

 

Shift

Shift is primarily Monday - Thursday; 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays are required.
