The Town of Herndon, Virginia Parks and Recreation Department (HPRD) seeks a highly motivated professional to join our aquatics team of our year-round indoor facility. This position plays an integral role in lifeguarding, supporting the lifeguards and pool operations during their shifts, administering first-aid, responding to emergencies, and ensuring safe pool operations and protocols. It requires exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming environment. This position lifeguards 85-90% of work schedule with remaining time on administrative, support and training duties. The position serves as a designated manager-on-duty at the aquatic facility along with the Pool Operations Manager and Aquatics Services Manager.

DUTIES:
- Enforces town aquatics facility rules and regulations with appropriate staff and patrons.
- Supervises lifeguards; assists in lifeguard training.
- Understands and exercises proper emergency procedures including but not limited to first aid and CPR.
- Maintains aquatics facility, including but not limited to hosing, water testing, vacuuming and performing other procedures in the pump room; ensures testing and maintenance of aquatics facility and pool is appropriately accomplished.
- Assists in maintaining division inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Performs other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum one year experience as a lifeguard with supervisory experience
- Must have the following certifications: American Red Cross lifeguard training, first aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for the professional rescuer and Northern Virginia pool operator’s license, or the ability to obtain all within 90 days of employment
- Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable record
HOURS:
Tuesday - Saturday
6:30am - 3:30pm
Other hours: Varied on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.
