The City of Newport News Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a creative and strategic Senior Marketing Specialist to lead marketing, branding, and communications efforts that promote programs, parks, facilities, and special events while enhancing community engagement and the City’s positive image.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement comprehensive marketing campaigns promoting Parks and Recreation programs, events, and facilities.
  • Develop engaging digital marketing content across websites, social media, email communications, and online platforms.
  • Manage and maintain the department’s social media strategy, including content creation, engagement, and analytics reporting.
  • Design creative marketing materials including brochures, guides, flyers, advertisements, photography, and video content.
  • Ensure all marketing efforts align with the City of Newport News brand standards and messaging guidelines.
  • Maintain and update website content and manage the department’s online event calendar and digital platforms.
  • Develop and implement public relations initiatives, including press releases, newsletters, media relations, and stakeholder communications.
  • Track marketing analytics and evaluate campaign performance to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the City’s Communications Department and community partners to strengthen outreach and visibility.
  • Provide marketing and branding guidance to departmental leadership and assist with presentations to City leadership, City Council, and community groups.
  • Supervise assigned staff and support professional development, performance management, and team collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Tourism, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.
  • Experience with digital marketing, graphic design, social media management, and public communications.
  • Strong writing, creative design, and project management skills.
