The Key Recreation Center Supervisor performs responsible routine work overseeing the daily operations, services, and staff of the Herman Key Recreation Center, including planning, implementing, scheduling, evaluation and maintenance. Supervises the work of subordinate staff. Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation Operations Division Manager.

The preferred hiring range for this position is between $56,326.40 - $67,808 Annually. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity.   • The City of Charlottesville manages its own retirement system which offers both a defined benefit and a defined contribution option.  While the City does not participate in VRS, the City has a Portability Agreement with VRS and there are certain provisions that must be met. 

Education and Experience: Candidates may qualify by demonstrating the required knowledge and skills outlined for the job through experience(s) other than formal education.
 

  • Bachelor degree in recreation, physical education, hospitality, business administration, or closely related field AND 1 year of progressively responsible experience in recreation services coordinating the daily operations of community centers, sports complexes or similar area, including at least 1 year in a lead, senior, or supervisor capacity.

OR

  • Associate degree in recreation, physical education, hospitality, business administration, or closely related field AND 3 years of progressively responsible experience in recreation services coordinating the daily operations of community centers, sports complexes or similar area, including at least 1 year in a lead, senior, or supervisor capacity.

OR

  • High School diploma or GED AND 5 years of progressively responsible experience in recreation services coordinating the daily operations of community centers, sports complexes or similar area, including at least 1 year in a lead, senior, or supervisor capacity.

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above.


Certifications/Licenses/Other Requirements:

  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or the ability to become certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to city criteria.
  • Required to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-employment drug screen.
