Performs skilled trades work maintaining the cleanliness of parks, marking and preparing ball fields, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under limited supervision.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in the performance of general maintenance, grounds keeping, parks maintenance work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses / Certifications:
Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Playground Maintenance Course - preferred
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, capabilities, and limitations of equipment used in area of assignment.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of equipment.
Knowledge of regulations governing equipment operation.
Knowledge of parks drainage, buildings, grounds, utilities, landscape areas and related construction, maintenance and repair procedures.
General knowledge of plant identification, maintenance schedules, chemical applications and grounds maintenance equipment.
Knowledge of ground maintenance techniques and equipment.
Skills:
Skill in the operation of equipment to which assigned.
Effective communication skills.
Ground maintenance skills.
Abilities:
Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
Ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of equipment.
Ability to make minor repairs and adjustment to equipment.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods often under unfavorable weather conditions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
