Oversees the day-to-day operations of summer camps for ages 3-17.
Examples of Duties
Plans, implements and evaluates camp activities and field trips
Oversees day-to-day operations, develops weekly lesson plans, and communicates with participants, parents and staff
Oversees all part-time staff, volunteers and participants within the program
Maintains program supply levels and equipment inventory
Assists with Summer Food Service Program meal preparation and service
Maintains current and accurate records in all aspects of the camp, evaluates camp content and provides supervisor with a daily recap including all staff/participant issues, needs and requests.
Maintains facility cleanliness and assists with custodial duties.
Serves as a role model and promotes positive behaviors and attitudes while maintaining constructive relationships with participants and colleagues.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED. College coursework in the following fields (sport management, education, health and fitness, etc) preferred.
Experience working with youth (at least 1-2 years) preferred
Licenses and/or Certifications:
Valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Knowledge:
General knowledge physical activity, group games, and arts and crafts.
General knowledge of programs and activities appropriate for ages 3-17.
Skills:
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Abilities:
Ability to drive a 12-passenger van.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to work successfully in a team environment and maintain positive working relationships.
Ability to enter, stand, and move in a pool or lake.
Supplemental Information
Work Environment:
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Worker is exposed to temperature changes, noise, odors, dust and strenuous physical activity.
