• Ensures the safety of each child enrolled in the childcare programs
• Plans and implements age and developmentally appropriate program activities that will include the areas of physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs of the children enrolled
• Manages a busy classroom environment and provides the structure and discipline required for successful learning for everyone in the program
• Maintains regular observation and evaluation of children's development and progress as directed by administration
• Serves as a role model for the children in the areas of attitude, speech, and actions
• Encourages the children's development in the areas of building self-confidence, problem solving, and taking responsibility for their actions
• Supervises part-time and seasonal staff
• Assists staff with the maintenance of fees and schedules
• Assists with other various department and City-sponsored programs and events
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, health and physical education, or a related field and some related experience required. At least 5 years of experience working with children in a teaching position or administering childcare preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possession of a valid and appropriate driver’s license. Valid Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/AED, First Aid, and Emergency Medication training certifications, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend. Ability to speak and communicate effectively using correct English.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proven experience in administration of parks and recreation programs for a diverse population and experience in supervision of personnel. Ability to cooperate with and interpret recreational philosophies to City authorities, private groups, agencies, and the public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, City officials, contractors, public groups, and citizens.
