The Youth Job Coach duties will include, but not be limited to:
The Summer Youth Employment Job Coach will assist the Program Coordinator with the implementation of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) including, but not limited to the following functions:
Monitor worksite behavior; conduct on-site coaching and counseling of SYEP participants at various locations throughout the city.
Handle discipline issues and develop/enforce rules and regulations.
Supervise, coach and evaluate youth workers performance, as needed.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with administration, community partners and youth workers.
Visit work sites to ensure youth participants are being properly supervised, labor laws are being followed and program quality is upheld at the worksite.
Maintain data, perform data entry duties and prepare correspondence.
Complete required paperwork and prepare weekly documents – including site and youth worker evaluations.
Operate office equipment including, multi-function copier, computer, calculator, multi-line telephone, etc.
Prepare and submit required reports.
Follow established protocol in reporting any sensitive worker information concerns.
Ensure and maintain the confidential treatment of participant and staff information.
Respond to and follow through in emergency situations.
Proactively promote a positive work environment. Create an environment which is inclusive.
Request and maintain program supplies, equipment and other necessary materials.
Assist as needed in planning and conducting special events.
Attend and participate in all scheduled in-service trainings, staff meetings, and mandatory trainings.
Ensure all mandatory trainings/certifications are current and maintained throughout employment.
Required to operate a motor vehicle to carry out assigned duties.
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.
MINIMUMS: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old. High school diploma or GED and six (6) months related experience, either in a paid or volunteer capacity, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Requires a current and valid drivers license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work rotating shifts days and evenings, including weekends and holidays and be available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs. All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
The Summer Youth Employment Program dates are June 15, 2026 – August 5, 2026.
Coaches will work throughout this period, including attending the program orientation Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Requires a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver's license eligibility requirements.
This is a seasonal position August 5, 2026.
Coaches will assist participants in the SYEP program which is designed to provide workplace readiness training and meaningful work experiences for youth and young adults, ages, 16 - 21. Participants will work varied hours a week at worksites within various City departments and private companies and perform duties related to the organization’s mission. Job placement will be determined by program staff. Participants will have opportunities to discover and explore their talents, acquire new skills, set career goals and learn more about the community in which they live, while earning an income.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours or maybe be relocated to another location or job assignment in response to short- term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies including weekends, evenings and holidays.
