Summer Camp Recreation Specialist

General Statement of Duties

Essential Duties

The employee must have strong knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation, specifically of recreation programming; exceptional leadership, supervisory and problem-solving skills required; knowledge and hands on experience with children in a variety of settings.  Must have the ability to work on own initiative without close supervision or guidance, good organizational skills, effective oral and written communication skills

• Oversee and supervise staff at multiple sites for summer day care camp.
• Must have considerable knowledge and hands on experience with managing staff who are working directly with youth in a variety of areas.
• Possess exceptional leadership, supervisor and problem-solving skills.
• Directly supervise, train, and work with Recreation Center Coordinators, Instructors and Aides.
• Ability to work independently, effective oral and written communication skills.
• Assesses and communicates directly with parents, guardians, of participants in regard to their behaviors
• While representing Henrico County establish and maintain positive and constructive relationships with camper, parents, guardians.
• Evaluate program needs to ensure program safety and quality. 
• Effectively and accurately complete necessary form and reports.
• maintain communication with supervision for the safety and efficiency of camp.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a bachelor's degree in recreation or a field directly related to the needs of the assigned position, and one (1) year of related work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
