Position Overview: 

The Workforce and Community Resilience Director is a key member of Groundwork RVA’s Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the Deputy Director. This full-time, exempt position is responsible for leading and expanding Groundwork RVA’s Green Infrastructure Apprenticeship Program and overseeing the Community Resilience Team’s fee-for-service and ArborCare projects across Richmond. 

This position is grant-funded for the life of a current grant (four years), with continuation dependent on future funding. 

Responsibilities: 

• Coordinate the planning and implementation of Groundwork RVA’s growing tree-planting and maintenance program. 

○ Oversee tree planting and maintenance to ensure that correct tree species are planted and maintained in accordance with the City’s SOP’s and grant deliverables. Building and maintaining strong relationships with partners and the communities we serve. 

○ Coordination with others in the Richmond City Urban and Community Forestry Coalition, and Groundwork USA network, to ensure project outputs, and best climate and resilience impact from new trees being planted. 

• Oversee project, Grant and contract management of multiple short and long term green infrastructure projects.. 

○ Develop detailed quotes for projects and grant proposals 

○ Creating timelines, equipment and materials schedules 

○ Tracking performance, time-to-task efficiency and costs in time and materials 

○ Ensure timely and accurate input of staff time for payroll 

○ Develop bi-weekly and quarterly program reports for the leadership team and board review. ○ Maintain work and expense records for grant reports and audits. 

• Coordinate with the Community Resilience Team Foreman and Crew Chief to Create and manage daily and weekly project/work schedule 
• Manage multiple projects and deliverables with crews working in multiple locations.
• ● Quality control and regular interaction with Green Workforce and Green Team members to ensure success and pride of workmanship.
• • Collaborate w/Deputy Director to find, create, and implement educational opportunities that further participants skill development and broadens their horizons to different career opportunities available post Groundwork. 
  • Assist Deputy Director in the development, implementation, and oversight of the Green Infrastructure apprenticeship program curriculum and Community Advisory Council. 
  • Work in coordination with the Deputy Director, Chief Financial officer and Community Resilience Crew foreman to develop, track and maintain program budgets. 
  • Foster learning environment and allow enough crew autonomy for youth crew (ages 18-30) to make ● mistakes and learn from them while remaining OSHA safe. 
  • Use questions and “teachable moments” to encourage agency and critical thinking skills. 

  Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of landscaping, green infrastructure and grounds maintenance. ● Proficient in the use of Microsoft products, time tracking applications, and project management systems. ● Significant project management; design, proposal and quality control experience. 
  • Proficient in and ability to teach the use of a wide range of hand tools, power tools, as well as light and heavy equipment. 
  • Understanding of program development and design; ability to work well with internal and external partners to create supportive employment pathways for Black and Brown youth in green infrastructure development and maintenance. . 
  • An understanding of cognitive and social development of youth and the ways in which young adults interact. 
  • Excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail. ● Valid driver’s license 
  • Ability to drive a wide range of vehicles with a trailer 
  • Sensitivity to all gender expressions, comfort working alongside LGBTQIA+ youth and staff, and an awareness of, sensitivity to, and celebration of racial and ethnic differences. 
  • At least five years of management experience is required. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

  Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Workforce / job training experience. 
  • Experience working with Black and Brown youth and communities . 
  • Experience in developing and maintaining Green Infrastructure . 
  • Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not required. 

  Compensation 

  Competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications, within an anticipated range of $60,000-$80,000. Health insurance (75% paid) including eye care and dental; generous vacation, sick, and holiday leave. Retirement benefit with employer match.
