General Description: This is a skilled position. The incumbent performs routine tasks to repair and maintain equipment and inventory for the department.

 

Organization:     The Maintenance Service Technician position is part of Hanover County’s Career Development Program (CD).  The Maintenance Service Technician Ladder has three (3) levels ranging from Maintenance Service Technician I Maintenance Service Technician III.  The Maintenance Service Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and supervises no staff.

 

Essential Functions:

· Services equipment and assists staff with repairs.

· Maintains inventory and assists with department recordkeeping and   preventative maintenance schedule.

· Prepares and maintains ball fields, parks, and grounds for general public   use and safety.

· Maintains clean, safe conditions in shop/service area.

· Serves as backup to maintenance staff.

· Assists with Election Equipment Delivery and Pickup.

· Performs light carpentry and special projects.

· Performs related work as assigned.

 

Working Conditions:

A. Hazards

· Minimum exposure to high noise levels

· Minimum exposure to chemicals and fuel oils

· Routine exposure to adverse weather, dust, noise, fumes, vibrations and   repetitiveness

· Garage

· Field-- occasionally

C. Physical Effort

· Routine lifting of objects over 50 pounds

· Ability to work from extension ladder

· Must travel to project sites to perform essential functions

D. Non-exempt

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires general mechanical aptitude with ability to make routine repairs to equipment and rebuild small engines. Must be able to set priorities and work independently. Requires good communication skills, both oral and written. Must be able to work effectively with staff and suppliers.

 

Education, Experience and Training: High school diploma or equivalent required with additional training in small engines and mechanics and related experience preferred. Computer literacy required. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.

 

Special Conditions:

· Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting

· Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License

· Twelve-month probationary period

· Work beyond normal work schedule

· Essential staff designation

· Must wear uniform, including safety equipment

· Pre-employment audiometric testing and hearing conservation and   repeated in accordance to policy thereafter
