Marketing Coordinator duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The Marketing Coordinator supports the Creative HQ team, by helping execute marketing campaigns, design and produce print and digital marketing content, support social media campaigns and collaborate with a variety of teams within the parks and recreation department.

The coordinator provides a range of marketing and communication duties, with a focus on field marketing at the recreation centers and special events.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides graphic design support including production of marketing materials including print materials, signage, social media graphics, motion graphics for video and social media.
  • Coordinates distribution and display of marketing materials and brand swag at recreation centers and park sites.
  • Regularly visit park sites, recreation centers and special events to take photographs and videos to build a photography and b-roll library.
  • Provides social media support including developing social media content, responding to incoming queries from the public and tracking social media analytics.
  • Supports digital marketing campaigns by developing content for emails, websites, events and venue listings.
  • Create campaigns and design assets that enhance brand perception with our audience. 
  • Supports design and production of seasonal activity guides, brand swag and branded promotional materials.
  • Contribute to marketing plans, customer surveys and marketing reports, including development of creative ideas for future campaigns.
  • Work with employees at all levels of the organization.

Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

MINUMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above high school level) and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years in fields such as public relations, communications, marketing, or journalism utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the Citys operational status.

This position is being advertised as a pool, and applications could be used to fill current vacancies and other similar positions that become available within six (6) months from the closing date of this posting.

Some assignments may require overtime or split shifts to cover operational needs.

All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours or maybe be relocated to another location or job assignment in response to short- term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies including weekends, evenings and holidays.

Requires a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements.

As a condition of employment, all full-time employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided your training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.
