Recreation Supervisor:  Plans, develops, implements, and supervises recreation programs.

 

Examples of Duties

 

  • Develops, implements, monitors, evaluates, and supervises the operations of assigned recreation program areas and facility operations.
  • Oversees and supervises the activities of subordinate staff and volunteers; selects, assigns, trains, directs, schedules, and monitors staff duties; evaluates employee performance and initiates disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Oversees and manages contracted and specialty services.
  • Makes recommendations on new programs or modifications of existing programs to meet community needs.
  • Serves as a liaison and resource for community agencies and other organizations.
  • Serves as representative with external organizations; attends and/or speaks at meetings, community and professional functions, and conferences as assigned.
  • Prepares marketing materials, such as course descriptions, program brochures, newsletters, and announcements; uses social media and other forums to maximize community outreach and participation.
  • Responsible for coordinating logistics for facility rentals, including, but not limited to, providing tours and information to prospective renters, and implementing details outlined in rental agreements to ensure events are properly executed.
  • Monitors inventory, orders, and proper storage of supplies.
  • Prepares and manages program budgets and grants.
  • Manages fee collection, accounting activities, and program registration in assigned areas.
  • Identifies grant opportunities; develops and prepares grant proposals.
  • Maintains records on program activities, attendance, and other pertinent information
  • Prepares a variety of operational and business reports, and associated correspondence.
  • Assists with City special events as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Addresses citizen inquiries and resolves complaints.
  • Other duties as assigned.


 

Education & Experience

 

  • High School diploma and at least seven years directly related experience or,
  • Two years of college or Associate’s Degree and at least three years directly related experience or,
  • A Bachelor’s Degree and at least two years directly related experience or,
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • General knowledge of and experience with program planning and individual/group activities.
  • General knowledge of administrative practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • General knowledge of and experience with computers and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of and experience in: scheduling and evaluating programs, activities, and events; and supervising staff, volunteers, and contractors.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, with frequent interruptions while remaining organized and accurate; possess excellent written and oral communication skills; and be highly professional.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, organizational and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evening and/or weekends hours.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening and criminal background check.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment

 

The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough or difficult surfaces; recurring stooping, climbing or walking; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing less than 25 pounds and may require occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 25 pounds. The work may require specific, but common physical characteristics and abilities such as mobility and dexterity.

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or equipment such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shield.
