Job Summary

Loudoun County's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services is seeking qualified individuals for the full-time position of Natural Resources Manager. This position, under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor, is tasked with managing the planning, implementation, and continuous assessment of natural resource management initiatives linked to the county's trail system and natural resource areas. The Natural Resources Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of natural resources throughout all properties under Loudoun County Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, which encompass wildlife, woodlands, wetlands, rivers, and various other ecological assets. The primary duties encompass performing resource evaluations, formulating strategic management plans, and implementing best practices for ecological preservation. The person occupying this role will work in conjunction with both internal and external stakeholders, guarantee adherence to environmental regulations, and assess the effectiveness of management strategies to uphold a balance between ecological integrity and recreational activities. This position is vital in promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible utilization of the department's park and trail systems.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Create and offer recommendations regarding processes and written content for the Loudoun Trails and Waterways project alongside the department's natural resources plan.
• Supervise the development, execution, and upkeep of natural resource management strategies for linear parks, trail corridors, and other areas managed by the department.
• Serve as the main point of contact for the department's initiatives concerning natural resources. Develop and maintain alliances with other organizations that are committed to conserving and managing the environment.
• Generates and provides status updates, reports, as well as quarterly and annual review information.
• Works in conjunction with essential project personnel and external stakeholders to design, guide, and execute initiatives that promote the goals of Natural Resource management.
• May carry out additional critical job responsibilities pertinent to the specific role and departmental assignment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, environmental studies, environmental science, forestry, biology, or related field and five (5) years of professional experience in natural resource management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Certified Natural Resources Professional (NREP) or Certified Landscape Architect preferred.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must undergo pre-employment criminal background, credit, and DMV background checks. Valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Hold or obtain certifications desired by the Department for the specific assigned area. Complete supervisory training and County e-learning as required.
