Under general supervision, programs special events, performs recreational work assisting in coordinating and administering recreational and sports activities in the County Parks and Recreation Department. Work involves assisting with existing programs and developing new programs based on expressed needs of the community and available resources. Schedules and represents Spotsylvania County at various regional and local events using the "Earth Day Trailer". Work also involves solicitation of individuals and businesses as sponsors for Departmental activities. Manages the Banner Advertising Program. Work involves preparing and updating inventories of supplies and equipment. Employee is also responsible for assisting in report preparation. Employee must exercise some initiative and independent judgment in assisting in coordinating recreational programs. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with program participants, employees and volunteers.
• Assists Recreation Programmers or Special Events/Leisure Programmer in providing administration and operating sports programs, special events, and recreational programs.
• Assists in preparation and planning of activities at the Senior Center.
• Assists in coordination of existing programs.
• Explores new programs for the Department based on community needs and available resources; corresponds with other localities to form ideas and investigate success rates of various programs.
• Programs and oversees annual Environmental Camp.
• Schedules and represents Spotsylvania County at various regional and local events using the "Earth Day Trailer". Events may include regional Earth Day celebrations, America Recycles Week, Stars and Stripes Spectacular, school programs, etc.
• Assists in the coordination and promotion of Parks and Recreation Leisure Programs and Special Events including program development and expansion. Corresponds with other localities to form ideas and investigate success rates of various programs.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with businesses, volunteers, community groups, etc. to gain support and recognition for Parks and Recreation Leisure Programs and Special Events.
• Assists in marketing of Parks and Recreation Leisure Programs and Special Events. Duties may include seeking sponsorship for events, scheduling/attending promotional events, conducting market surveys and interest studies.
• Solicits businesses and citizens for sponsorship of Special Events and programs.
• Leads the Department's Banner Advertising Program.
• Prepares and maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Assists in answering telephones, receives inquiries and provides information and refers inquiries to appropriate personnel. Takes messages as needed.
• Assists in preparation of reports.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Bachelor's Degree in recreation, physical education or a related field, and three (3) to five (5) years of experience in recreation work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
