Job Summary

Loudoun County's Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Aquatics Supervisor for the Ashburn Recreation and Community Center (scheduled to open in late summer 2025)! This position oversees the natatorium; recruits, hires, schedules, trains, and supervises lifeguard staff; ensures water chemistry per code; ensures cleanliness of locker rooms and pool areas; documents chemical reports, maintenance, incident, and injury reports; ensures maintenance of pool pumps/filters/sanitization systems; and orders supplies and maintains inventory and equipment. The ideal candidate has a background in recreational management or a related field, with proven experience in aquatics operations. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills are a must, along with a strong commitment to promoting water safety and enjoyable aquatic experiences. In this position, the incumbent is responsible for the overall operations of the natatorium, management and supervision of full-time and part-time lifeguard staff at the Ashburn Recreation Center.

• Ashburn Recreation & Community Center, Ashburn, VA

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Recruiting and employing aquatic personnel, which includes both full-time and part-time lifeguards, as well as organizing the necessary aquatic staff to ensure sufficient coverage for all facilities during programs, activities, and unstructured swimming.
• Coordinating and implementing American Red Cross training, team trainings and re-certification programs for full and part-time aquatics staff.
• Maintains facility operations and water chemistry for aquatic facilities; ability to operate, troubleshoot and make minor repairs to all aquatic equipment.
• Inspects facilities for safety, hazards, deficiencies and cleanliness.
• Performs necessary duties to ensure outdoor facilities (splash pad) are prepped for opening and closing. As well as duties needed during the annual shutdown of the indoor facility.
• Oversee the inventory and condition of supplies, equipment and uniforms
• Reviews and advice on amendments to policies concerning safety and emergency action plans.
• May carry out additional critical job responsibilities that are specific to the role and departmental assignment.

Work schedule varies following operational hours and may include weekdays, evening, and weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; four (4) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Leisure Services or a related field and one (1) year of experience in aquatics operations and natatorium facility management working with the public and includes prior supervisory experience.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Certified Aquatic Facility Operator, Certified PTHA CPO Instructor, NRPA Aquatics Management, NRPA Splash Pad, CPRP certification or equivalent. Membership and involvement in related professional organization(s).

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must undergo pre-employment fingerprinting, credit, Child Protective Services (CPS) and DMV background checks. Driver's license must be valid and driving record must be good (driver's records may be reviewed annually).
Before employment, hold or obtain the required Pool Operator license and American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification. Obtain American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification within 90 days of hiring. Certification in American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen within 90 days of hiring.
