Do you have a passion for enhancing parks, open spaces, and community experiences through strategic planning and hands-on leadership? The Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services Department is looking for a skilled manager, innovative planner, and strong team leader to help shape the future of Hampton’s Parks Division.
Examples of what you will be doing:
Facilitates the daily operations of the Parks Division, including short-term and long-range planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing maintenance and landscaping for parks and facilities, budgeting, overseeing projects and guest services, supervising and developing staff, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and evaluating departmental programs and service needs. Works collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, and outside agencies to support the department’s mission, vision, and operations.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Parks and Recreation Administration, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, Business Administration, Management, Leisure Services, Law Enforcement, or a related field. Master’s Degree is preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in park management, landscaping, and facility maintenance, including at least five (5) years of supervisory experience.
A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements:
May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week, including evenings and weekends.
Requires regular communication with contractors, engineers, city staff, and the general public.
May be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
