Job Summary
Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Athletics Manager, this position performs professional duties in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervising athletic activities, programs, clinics, leagues and classes for preschool to adult populations within the Parks & Recreation Division.
Job Functions
Essential Functions
1. Plans, schedules, coordinates and evaluates recreational opportunities (e.g., athletic leagues, clinics, classes, etc.) for specific target populations ranging from preschool to active adults;
2. Provides budget input for related athletic programs and activities;
3. Evaluates programs and leagues for overall effectiveness and makes recommendations for improvements;
4. Orders supplies, equipment, and materials while maintaining an inventory and organizes supplies;
5. Creates, plans and administrates minor special events and assists with major events;
6. Assists in marketing all Department offerings through social media, print and other creative advertising sources;
7. Recruits and interviews potential part-time, seasonal or contractual employees and recommends hiring;
8. Conducts registration for classes, programs and events;
9. Recruits, trains, and supervises a steady volunteer pool and maintains a record of hours and tasks performed;
10. Ensures Departmental compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures;
11. Maintains all necessary Department supplied paperwork (attendance sheets, facility request forms, accident reports, class and program evaluations, etc.);
12. Performs general clerical tasks; answers telephone; prepares correspondence, forms, flyers, brochures, reports, etc.; maintains records and files;
13. Demonstrate capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult people;
14. Coordinates with various community and outside agencies to provide unique opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience in physical education, sports management, recreation administration or a closely related field.
- CPR/ AED and First Aid certification required.
Special Requirements
- Must possess satisfactory results of a criminal history background check. Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Possession of First Aid, CPR and AED certifications or to be obtained within 6-months of hire date
