The Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department is looking for an energetic individual to support the community events and programming offered by the City! Work will be performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor. Special events include our Egg Hunt, Memorial Day Parade and Festival, Independence Day Celebration, Sunset Cinemas, Falls Church Festival, Farm Day, Halloween Carnival, Holiday Craft Show, and more. This individual will also assist in the planning and implementation of historic programs and events offered at the Cherry Hill Farmhouse as well as art and culture initiatives in the City.

The successful candidate should have a strong interest in community-focused special events. An ideal candidate is flexible and able to work during typical business hours as well as events taking place on evenings, weekends, and holidays. Duties include:

  • Assist Program Supervisor in the planning and implementation of the annual special event calendar, Cherry Hill Farmhouse programs, and additional programming.
  • Execute event and program logistics including preparing supplies, corresponding with participating groups/staff/volunteers, booking entertainment, processing payments, and other pre/post-event tasks.
  • Monitor event applications and inquiries; correspond with applicants.
  • Create event fliers, community mailings, social media posts, and other outreach materials for special events and programs.
  • Participate in setup, event operations, and tear down on event dates.
  • Manage pop-up event calendar.
  • Oversee volunteers and part-time staff on event dates.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Provide excellent customer service and develop positive working relationships with individuals of varying ages and backgrounds. 

Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma. Some college-level course work in recreation, event management, or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills (MS Office, Windows desired).
  • Excellent Customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience using social media and some graphic design to include Canva or similar programs.
  • Must pass drug screen and background checks and possess valid driver's license and good driving record as a condition of employment.

Hours: Part-time, averaging 15-20 hours/week. Hours and shifts will vary. Individual will work flexible planning hours during typical business hours coordinated with their supervisor. The individual will also work events and programs that typically fall on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
