Job Summary

Are you an energetic, innovative, and community-oriented individual? We are currently looking for qualified candidates to fill our Recreation Programmer position. This multifaceted role encompasses the design, creation, and oversight of outstanding programs tailored for our wonderful community. Ideal candidates will be capable of generating creative ideas, especially in the realm of mobile recreation. In addition to showcasing expertise in program development and fostering community involvement, the perfect candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of the program and camp requirements for all age groups. Flexibility is essential, as the role may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays, along with the ability to adapt to evolving schedules and community demands. Moreover, candidates should possess excellent interpersonal skills and thrive in collaborative team settings.

We are currently hiring for the following location(s):
• Ashburn Recreation & Community Center, Ashburn, VA (opens in 2025)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Design, implement, and manage diverse recreational programs tailored to the needs of our community, including youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
• Actively engage with community members to assess their needs and interests, ensuring the programs are inclusive and accessible, especially for underserved and hard-to-reach populations.
• Organize and oversee all aspects of special events, including creation, marketing, logistics, budgeting, permitting, staffing, etc.
• Develop and implement a marketing strategy to ensure high levels of participants in all recreation programs.
• Supervision of part time Instructor and/or Camp staff, to include: interviewing, onboarding, discipline, and evaluation.
• Work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers to create a supportive and enjoyable environment for all.
• Other essential job functions that are specific to the position and department assignment may be carried out.

*The work schedule is flexible and aligns with operational hours, potentially encompassing weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma and two years of applicable work experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
• One (1) year of supervisory experience in a related field.
• One (1) year of experience managing large-scale events and conducting outreach activities in a community setting.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must undergo criminal background, credit, Child Protective Services (CPS), and DMV checks. You must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. For continued qualifications, driving records may be reviewed annually. Fingerprints and TB tests must be conducted within 30 days of employment. First Aid/CPR certification is required to be obtained within four months of being hired or at the time of hiring.
