Overview
The Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department (RPCA) supports the well-being of Alexandria’s residents by ensuring access to a variety of quality recreation, park, and cultural experiences. In pursuit of service excellence, this Therapeutic Recreation Leader position supports. Therapeutic Recreation programming for youth and adults at the Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center and facilitate full inclusion in general recreational programs across the City of Alexandria.
Under the supervision of a Therapeutic Recreation Manager – the Therapeutic Recreation Leader will actively engage in developing, implementing, promoting, fun, safe, interactive programming in a team-focused environment. Primary responsibilities entail directly working with participants to strengthen skills, manage challenging behaviors, foster independent participation and will work with staff to create a positive, inclusive environment. The incumbent will provide professional administrative support and programmatic duties. The Therapeutic Recreation Leader is responsible for assisting supervisors with management of facility and leading specialized program areas, including adaptive activities, full inclusion and one-on-one support. The Therapeutic Recreation Leader has latitude in implementing programs within their assigned area of responsibility.
This position is full time, with hours generally Monday – Friday available between 9
a.m. – 6 p.m., flexible schedule with evenings and weekend program hours for special events. The successful candidate will be passionate about working in the community, bringing enthusiasm, flexibility, excellent communication skills and phenomenal customer service are all necessary to be successful in this position.
