The Water Safety Instructor duties will include but not be limited to:
Individual will provide a safe swimming environment
Provide customer service and enforce rules
Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Instruct all levels of American Red Cross Water Safety Programs in accordance with American Red Cross and department standards
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.
Must be at least 16 years old.
Must satisfactorily complete a departmental skills test prior to employment.
Requires possession of one or combinations of valid:
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification to teach ARC Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED/O2;
Certification or experience appropriate to the specialized program area, i.e., competitive swimming, diving, or specialized aquatic instruction.
Upon Employment:
Must obtain American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED within 30 days of employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to work rotating shifts (days/evenings) including weekends and holidays and be available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs.
This pool of applicants may fill positions for multiple locations.
The individual selected for this position will be housed at a primary site but may be scheduled between other park sites/facilities. Schedules will be adjusted seasonally and will vary weekly based on events, facility coverage, and weather.
Average scheduled hours up to 27 hours per week.
Program hours will vary based on enrollment.
Some assignments may require overtime or split shifts to cover operational needs.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours or maybe be relocated to another location or job assignment in response to short- term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies including weekends, evenings and holidays.
As a condition of employment, all part-time employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided your training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.
