The selected candidate will primarily support the Department’s Programs within the City’s community centers, and park facilities which include open play programs, child care programs, athletic activities, therapeutic, senior, instructional, interpretive, and other various day camp and recreational programs. The primary duty is supervising seasonal and part-time staff along with overseeing the programming for various age groups as well as structured youth and adult programs in the community centers. This position will also support facility operations, rentals, and events in community centers. Other related duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides customer service relations to a diverse population of citizens groups, volunteers, program participants, visitors and employees that meets the expectations of the City’s Customer Care standards. Greets visitors, interacts with the public in person, by phone and electronically, provides information related to various recreational programs, activities, and facility resources. May conduct facility tours.
  • Supervises children and adults in structured departmental programs, specifically programs and facility supervision. Supervises on site seasonal and part-time staff, including assisting with training, recruitment and employee performance evaluations. Assists with staff schedules and adjustments. Must be able to multi-task daily in a very dynamic work environment and assists with the coordination of operations to include, internal and external facility reservations, registrations, memberships, leisure, senior and athletic programs. Assists independent contractors with programing and participant customer service opportunities.
  • Plans, organizes and implements a variety of theme-oriented recreational activities for programs; assists with coordinating field trips and activities. Requires knowledge and active participation in field trips and center settings and various active & passive games, sports, arts and crafts, fitness and health programs, cultural and social awareness programs and special events.
  • Assists with daily center operations such as opening and closing facilities, rentals, organizes site equipment, set–up, take down of various types of recreational equipment, tables, chairs, and conducts facility inspections. May assist with routine custodial duties to include cleaning restrooms, showers, floors, kitchen, recreational equipment, and trash pick-up and disposal in facility and surrounding grounds.
  • Organizes site equipment; expresses game rules and regulations, demonstrates game equipment; makes safe decisions; and interprets directions. Assists with monitoring recreational and park programs to ensure compliance with all applicable City policies, ordinances, and health and safety requirements. Assists with monitoring center identification system, and daily participant circulation. Resolves conflicts between children and adults in a calm and orderly manner; report behavior issues to management staff and parents. Responds to accidents and injuries, may perform basic first aid.
  • Submits written reports, of accidents/incidents, equipment and inventory needs, to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Assists with weekly, monthly and annual statistical reports. Assists with planning and implementation of special events. Creates marketing strategies including brochures, flyers, sponsorships to effectively advertise and support youth and center programs.
  • Maintains inventory records and assists with budgeting and the purchasing of recreational equipment, materials and supplies. Controls the disbursement, collection, storage of equipment and overall site inventory. Maintains appearance enhancements such as decorations and bulletin boards within the facility.
  • Uses computer daily, utilizing Microsoft Office for reports, letters, spreadsheets and flyers and ActiveNet Recreation Software to input and facilitate class registrations, memberships and facility reservations.
  • Processes various monetary transactions, collects fees and funds for registrations, rentals, and events, prepares deposits, reconciles daily monetary collections and prepares report of collections. Uses specialized software to record monetary activities.
  • Works special events at city facilities and parks, and rentals that will require working many evenings, weekends and some holidays beyond normal business hours. Events may be held at various facilities located within the City, as well as, other neighboring locations.
  • Meets regularly with Supervisor, staff members and school officials to plan and coordinate program.
