General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate skilled human support work assisting in the planning, coordination, and supervision of recreation maintenance staff, assisting with scheduling, and service delivery; supervising maintenance staff & seasonal staff, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the assigned Recreation Program Supervisor. Continuous supervision is exercised over volunteer and program staff.  Oversees maintenance crew supervisors, manages tasks and schedules for staff.

Essential Functions

- Assists the Program Supervisor in planning, coordinating, facilitating, and supervising of maintenance staffs in relation to schedules at each facility.
- Schedules and supervises maintenance supervisors along with full and seasonal staff.
- Maintains contact with various community groups and organizations.
- Prepares schedules for staff and plans coordinated projects within department.
- Planning working projects for staff and assisting on projects when needed
- Working within appropriate budgets on projects given by Recreation Program Supervisor
- Supervises or assists in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the facility and recreational equipment.

Special Requirements

Special Requirements
Experience maintaining natural grass and artificial turf facilities.  Knowledge of both warm season and cool season natural grass surfaces.  Experience in supervision of staff/crews Valid commercial driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to obtain one within six months.  Must pass a mandatory drug screen.
 
Education & Experience
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in parks and recreation, sports management, business administration, or related field work experience.
 
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
General knowledge of maintaining athletic facilities and supervising staff; thorough knowledge of the techniques, tools, and equipment required to work on athletic facilities; some knowledge of public relations and media techniques; some knowledge of first aid practices and techniques; ability to instruct staff on daily work assignments; ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and general public.
 
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work frequently sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
